Music Talk Archive 2004:
Festival Express
Anyone else really disapointed in this DVD? I was expecting alot more footage of the train ride. Bullshitting and jam sessions and whatnot. No performance by Riders of Purple Sage, and only the popular songs by Janis, Band, Dead (the New Speedway Boogie was nice). Really, they could have put something better on there than Sha Na Na. And the commentary seemed pretty damn self richous for the promoters. It had its high points I guess, just not enough of them. They advertise it as having interviews with Phil, and he's got like 2 or 3 minutes including the bonus disk.
Yeah, really, man, everything sucks, nothing is any good, the whole freakin' world sucks . . . .
Funny thing is the 1st time I saw the GD movie (back in '77) I only wanted to see live footage of them playing and was really annoyed with anything besides that, even including the opening animation sequences - only because at the time I single-mindedly craved ANY good live performances on tape (aud or video) as tapes were so rare and hard to come by back them. When they cut the Eyes jam to talk to the food vendor I nearly jumped out of my seat in a fit of rage (well I STILL think that decision SUCKS) . . .
I think you should be happy you got to see any of it. Ungrateful Americans!! jeezum, no wonder the world despises you guys. hee haw hee haw

Screw you. If you read my posts, you should know I don't bitch about stuff often
OMG, the promoters were SO funny! You didn't get a kick out of that guy? He was so full on himself. He had my buddies and me rolling in the isles.
If it weren't for Festival Express, I would have never seen Sha Na Na. In the books, I read that they were always at the festivals, and I never really understood why. Now I get it.
The Band was _awesome._
The Janis performance at the end of the movie was nothing short of phenominal. *Now* I get her. (And I thought I did before!)
I had the DVD on my wish-list for Christmas, but it didn't come. (Neither did the GD Movie, for that matter, nor the Peter Gabriel!) Looks like it's time to make a trip to the DVD store!
I was also disappointed but the promoter was funny
I liked what there was to like, but it could have been so much better...
>If you read my posts, you should know I don't bitch about stuff often
you sure had this donkey fooled!
hee haw hee haw
I thought the hotdog vendor guy scene was funny too....also very tripped out in that 'you gotta feel the whole trip, man, the band, the fans, the twirlers, the roadies...' - as Jerry wanted it, so I can't argue with that!
i was kinda dissapointed ,too short....but what there was i enjoyed
>>>but what there was i enjoyed
spoken like a true deadhead!!
