One of the most miserable days here on treatments. Nothing to do with the meds...so far tx has been most tolerable with little side effects these last 39 weeks.
I fucked up royally tonight. While preparing a pot roast and browning the rump roast in hot oil I accidently(and stupidly) splashed scalding grease on my hand, palm and fingers. I'm now sporting second degree burns on my hand. Fuck this hurts! Been in agony, the only relief being ice packs and cold water every two minutes to soothe the raw nerves and skin. I put a call in to the local hospital and they suggested a trip to the emergency ward. Not tonight...it's poaring rain and downright nasty to venture out in this weather. Not much I figure they'll be able to do for me either. I'll ride it out in misery tonight and keep my eye out for any signs of infection.
Talk about being bitchy......This has scored a 10+ on my bitchometer. OUCH!!!!!!

Back to the cold compress.......

Hey David,

I am sorry to hear about your mishap while you
where cooking, You need to be more careful from
now on ...... ! Regarding the grease burns,if
continue to cause you pain, rub a layer of
vaseline over it and leave it open for air to get
to it !! This will prevent becoming infected, and
may relieve the pain also !!!!

Be careful !!!!

Bruce

Hey Now Dave,
Sorry to hear of your mishap. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Burns do suck... and can become infected very quickly... I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once, I'd suggest you get it checked out by a Doc ASAP...better safe than...you know the rest.

I hope you and your family have a peaceful loving X-mas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Peace,
Hoff

Hey Dave,

Sorry to hear about your burn. It happens to all us cooks at work. Fortunatly there is a nurxe station about 50 feet away from my kitchen. They have a real thick file folder on me. They usually use nuskin on me for my burns....but you better go see a doctor asap....until then..cold water over the burn.

Hi everyone
Just signed in to see how all is doing and read about your burn Dave..........but I see many other cooks have come to your rescue with the same advice! Cold water and lots of it....you want to stop the "cooking process" so to speak. When the blisters break that is the time to worry about infection, but I'm sure you have enough advice for now -(They have very cooling anti-bacterial gels that are very effective!)

Anyways it's Christmas Eve morning up here in the great rainy north. I've a million last minute things to do; but am doing them with enthusiasm and a light heart! My sons Rogan and Brendan will be here for the holidays and we all know how mushy Mom's get at the holidays. Least I do!

Merry, Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for a magical holiday season.

Love to all
Ceilidh

Dave,
once last summer as I was relaxing in a hotel room close to the Swedish border in mid-Norway, I was hotting up some arabian tobacco in my left hand. As luck would have it, I fell asleep with the lighter still on, and woke up the next morning with all the phun welded well under my skin. As that kind of leisure is frowned upon both by doctors and the police, I decided to keep a stiff upper lip and head back home according to plan. Luckily I ride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, so once I got it running there wasn't too much left handed clutch work to be done.(Soon as you kick in number five and keep out of roads with traffic lights it'll take you home)
Surely it was a pain for a couple of weeks, but now adays I have a nice little something stuck inside my left hand, perhaps it will come in (out)handy one of these days.
The funniest thing is, however, it keeps on growing.

Well, this is one story of burns that came out right in the end. The point is, I believe Dave, to keep something at hand that is worth melting down the next time you take to the stove.

Thank you, Jonah,
and I love my fellow beings. Be it humans, fish
or any kind of existence with or without wings,
I will always lift them up and never knock'em down. Alfred Reed told me that and all I could do was join in the chorus.

Funny you should mention it. When I was just a small boy in primary school, the teacher of religion insisted on narrating a story bout a guy going to Ninive in the middle east. His name was Jonas (Norwegian writing), and he was swallowed not by a fish, but by a big whale (mammal according to european zoology) and puked by the whale upon the dry land. I'm sure the old testament of the holy book also has an explanation for Ninive as the destination ( Hark, almost poetry here) but that's all I know, and the truth to be told, those stories are so goddamned old that I really don't know what to believe. That being said, I welcome freinds of all skin colors and beliefs.

Pelle :
God told him to go to Nineveh (eng. spelling) he said no, no one will believe me - took a boat to no where the boat was cursed and they saw who wasn't praying - it's your fault - got tossed off - swallowed by a mammal according to the ancient Hebrew - finally made it to Nineveh and everyone repenented -
Believe it or Not!!

Well, JR
that story about Jonah being spewed up on dry land in the vicinity of Niniveh by a raging whale
must have been such a sight to see for the people ringside. I guess that's why the story ended up in the old testament. Think of the cash we could pocket if we'd double that !
Make no mistake about it my friend. I think that Jonah's landing is about as credible as Christ rising on the third day.
On the other hand, one should never say never.
Jerry Garcia is with me every day, although he's been notoriousley gone for almost ten years. I guess I can say the same for Pigpen,Brent, Godchaux.
Trouble ahead, Jonathan, death is gonna make us all equal. Red, yellow or black or tan.
Makes no difference from man to man.
All the best to and you phamily and phriends,
now I'm wobbling for real. Good night music lovers and maybe I'll be back.

Lodbrok

I know th pain..I do the burn thing with my woodstove. The only true thing good for burns, not toxic to meds that I know of is the Aloe Vera. I have aplant that is on my windowsill and a bottle of the juice in my fridge.....It cools down the wound immediately. We Northerners do not have the luxury of having this weed grow naturally. Most plant shops, etc have them. I always found them in farmer's market. Feel better. I have a 2 inch crescent on my right thumb but we are warm these chilly days.

Have a Great Christmas.

Thanx All for the concerns on the burns....

After a long and sleepless downright miserable agonizing night spent nursing these burns I finally passed out from sheer exaustion and pain grasping an ice pack(many thanx to pegasys pkgs.). I awoke some hours later still in much pain but not as severe. Three days later I am still quite tender and am sporting a few nice leathery patches complete with blisters on regions of my hand and between my fingers. No signs of infection and I've not used any ointments nor dressings yet. I'm happy to report I've even regained some lost sanity....no masterbation for me lately....
No, I never ventured to the hospital. As luck would have it, I heal rather quickly. About 20 years ago I suffered first degree burns on the same hand. I burned my flesh down to the bone on my fingers that incident. It took months to heal but I never lost any functions thankfully.

and I'm still a one fingered typist.....
