Yeah Fritz, since when are YOU part of the team ! # 6 got on me for that too ! No worries Fritz, when you love your team that much, (even if they took 86 years to bring you a championship, 86 count em ), you still feel a part of them ! Only natural to say WE !

You know it's gonna get stranger....

Blockbuster Deal Indeed - Check this out:

(Boston) The Red Sox signed two new players for their depleted pitching staff Saturday. With Pedro gone to the Mets, the Sox were thought to have been on the lookout for over-looked talent. Right handed middle reliever J. Fritz was obtained off waivers, and the Red Sox and a free agent known only by his number, the mysterious #6, came to terms on a one year deal. The Sox apparently did not want to go past a one year deal with #6 because he's too fucking old! The #6 was last worn for the Sox by the infamous Bill Buckner - but the new #6 was quoted as saying, "The Sox have finally won the Series again after 86 years, so Buckner's foul up is rendered meaningless. I will proudly wear the #6 for the World Series Champion Red Sox". Manager Francona said, "With Fritz and our new #6 on the staff, the feeling around here is - Pedro who?".

So - it is WE, ya assholes! :-)

Merry Christmas and all that, too!

Trade involving Unit has not reached Commissioner yet
By Barry M. Bloom / MLB.com
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

PHOENIX -- The Randy Johnson saga rolled on into Day 3 on Saturday with multiple sources, including Major League Baseball's No. 2 official, saying that details of the three-team deal had yet to be completed and that a written agreement hadn't been submitted for Commissioner Bud Selig's approval.

"The deal's not done yet," Bob DuPuy, MLB's president, chief operating officer and second in command to Selig, told MLB.com. "As of the last time I talked to Bud late this afternoon, it wasn't on his desk."

Arizona Diamondbacks officials and Greg Genske, the agent for the Dodgers' Shawn Green, also said that the mega-deal was still in the detail stages and that Selig would probably not see the terms until Monday at the earliest. The trade would need approval by the Commissioner because more than $1 million could be changing hands along with at least 10 players.

"So far we have not been contacted by any team confirming there's a trade in place or that the commissioner has approved a trade," Genske told MLB.com on Saturday. "If, in fact, a trade is in place I expect the clubs would notify us and at that time we would consider whether Shawn might be willing to waive his no-trade clause or prefer to stay with the Dodgers and play out the remainder of his contract."

The main components are Johnson going from the Diamondbacks to the Yankees, Green from the Dodgers to Arizona and Javier Vazquez from New York to Los Angeles. Also Dodgers left-hander Kazuhisa Ishii would go to the Yankees, while Los Angeles would get two New York minor leaguers -- catcher Dioner Navarro and third baseman Eric Duncan. Arizona would also obtain right-handed pitchers Brad Penny and Yhency Brazoban along with Green from the Dodgers.

As it stands now, the Yankees would pay about $2 million of the $5.4 million remaining on Ishii's contract, The Associated Press reported Saturday. The Japanese left-hander is owed $3.2 million guaranteed for next year and an option for 2006 that has a $2.2 million buyout.

New York is already on the verge of adding free agent starting pitchers Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright. Pavano would be thrilled to pitch with the Big Unit said his agent, Scott Shapiro.

"Carl is ecstatic about the idea of pitching on a staff with Randy," Shapiro told MLB.com. "He knows him well, and looks forward to being a teammate. It would be fantastic to be in a rotation with him and Moose (Mussina) at the top of it. Can you imagine a rotation with them, and Jaret Wright, and even a healthy Kevin Brown?"

The Associated Press and the New York Times reported Saturday that Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Koplove and Brandon Weeden, a Dodgers pitching prospect, would also be part of the deal. Koplove could go to the Dodgers and Weeden to the Diamondbacks. Weeden, like Brazoban, was obtained by Los Angeles last year in the trade that sent Brown to New York.

Penny told MLB.com on Saturday that the deal was nearing completion, reiterating remarks he made Friday on ESPN radio.

"It's moving in the right direction, otherwise everybody wouldn't be talking about it," said Penny, who was originally picked by Arizona in the fifth round of the 1996 First-Year Player Draft, but was traded to the Florida Marlins before playing for the Diamondbacks. "I'm excited about going back to Arizona. At the same time, I'm sad to leave L.A. But overall, I'm looking forward to it."

Saturday's New York Daily News said a fourth team may be involved, but only after the initial deal was complete. The Dodgers would reportedly spin off Vazquez to the Chicago White Sox for a combination of players that could include first baseman Paul Konerko, lefty reliever Damaso Marte and righty starter Jon Garland, the Daily News reported.

But a Dodgers official with intimate knowledge of the trade said there had been no talk internally within the organization about a White Sox component of the deal.

Upon Selig's approval, a 72-hour window will then open so that the Yankees and Diamondbacks can begin contract extension negotiations respectively with Johnson, the 41-year-old left-hander, and the lefty-swinging Green, who grew up in the Los Angeles area and may not want to leave.

Both players have a year to go on their current contracts at an identical $16 million. While Johnson is vying for a one- to two-year extension at similar money, Green might opt to play out his contract in Arizona and then file for free agency next year.

Jeff Moorad, Arizona's new CEO-elect, was Green's agent when he negotiated his current six-year, $84 million deal with the Dodgers just after a trade from the Toronto Blue Jays in 1999.

Dave Roberts, who was traded by the Dodgers to the World Series champion Red Sox last season, said he won't be surprised if Green, his former teammate and close friend, opts to go to Arizona.

"Shawn went to the Dodgers about an extension," Roberts told MLB.com. "He was even willing to restructure it so it would work, but they didn't want to do that and he realized this would be his last year with the Dodgers. That opened the thought about going elsewhere. He knows from the moves they are making that Arizona will be competitive. He wants to stay in L.A., but he saw the direction they're going, that they didn't want to give him an extension and he doesn't want to be around if they don't want to keep him."

Evidently the Diamondbacks have been so sure that they were going to get Green, they backed out of a two-year contract with the free-agent right fielder Jeromy Burnitz during the middle of this past week, the New York Times reported in its Sunday edition.

Moorad negotiated the contract, but it was general manager Joe Garagiola Jr., who told Burnitz's agent, Howard Simon, that the deal was on hold. Simon was in Phoenix on Wednesday and Burnitz was scheduled to visit the next day.

"The Diamondbacks told us the thing was off, because of the Johnson deal," Simon said. "It was not a very fun experience to go out there after we had talked to them for maybe six weeks. They were very enthusiastic and had expressed very strong interest in Jeromy."

During the 72-hour window, the players would also have to clear physicals, which might be problematic for Johnson and Penny. Johnson had surgery on his right knee during the 2003 season and now has no cartilage left in that knee. Yet, he came back this past season to pitch a perfect game and was 16-14 with a 2.60 earned run average for a team that lost 111 games. His 290 strikeouts led the Majors for the ninth time and sixth in the past seven years.

The Dodgers acquired Penny last season in a deadline trade with the Marlins and he started just three games before going down for the season with a biceps injury in his right arm. By trading Penny, the Dodgers would be shedding the $5 million he is owed next season.

"With my situation, I have to pass a physical, I know that's one of the things that has to happen for this trade to happen," Penny told MLB.com. "No physical is scheduled, but I know that's something that has to happen. Right now, my biceps is all the way back. I'm just playing catch and they want me to make sure I'm 100 percent before I do anything more than that, but I'll be ready for Spring Training."

Barry M. Bloom is a national reporter for MLB.com. Reporters Ken Gurnick, Tom Singer and Steve Gilbert contributed. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
