If you followed the LA papers or watch the games you'd see that Kobe is starting to develop with his new team quite nicely...back to back triple doubles...he's coming close to a triple double every night.

This all doesn't bother me a bit...when you've seen as many championships won by the Lakers as I have it's not hard to watch a restructuring year. We'll still make the playoffs...

Sorry Ian, don't take my dislike for the Lakers personally, I have just been rooting against them for over 20 years now ! However, why is it that Kobe is always the one stirring the pot there in LA ? Actually Shaq wanted to stay but the Lakers wouldn't give him a 6 year bazillion dollar contract extension (which is smart, he's injury prone and on the downhill side of his career.) Buss is a smart guy, Kobe is the one to build a new team around, not Shaq.

Actually, Notty, I have considered doing Mrs. Bryant. I sat across from her on an AA flight from DFW to SNA (well, last row in first//first row in coach) recently. Since we all know that there have been countless numbers of great players in every sport that have had Championship rings and trophies elude them, the only real measuring stick by which we can fairly compare two great players is their career statistics.
This might not be totally fair, since there are other intangibles ( such as dedication to team play, the heart of a player, or even how a player is percieved by his peers), but it is about all that we have to go on in most cases.....such as this one between Kobe Bryant vs. Karl Malone!!
I guess I'll just let the numbers speak for themselves in this case......since both players have played in the same era, and against each other.
Here is the skinny folks;

Karl Malone > 18 years played, 25.0 pts per game
------------
avg., .516 FG%, 10.1 Rebounds per game avg., .742 FT avg., and 37 min. per game avg.

Kobe Bryant > 8 years played, 22.0 pts per game
------------ avg., .452 FG%, 5.1 Rebounds per game avg., .831 FT avg., and 32 min per game avg.

.....Like I said, this doesn't neccessarily tell the whole story, but I sure as hell wouldn't attribute the rings that Kobe has to His personal success, but more to a great surrounding cast ( one of the best centers and coach of all time!!). I think if Kobe manages to stick around another 10 years ( like "The Mailman" has), then we might have a better idea......but at this point, I think any reasonably minded fan has to admit that Malone's numbers simply shine far brighter than those of "The Kid's", and at this point Malone has proven to have had the superior career!!
The facts are in the numbers my friends....
