Sour Mash! Old #7 on the Track in 2005
http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/headlines/cup/12/03/rcr.jack.daniel/index.html
hey why not?
i was a bit surprised that Blaney was tabbed as the driver for this ride. i think he is capeable of getting the job done, just figured that someone with a little higher profile would get the call.
ICS released their traffic plan for the proposed track here on SI.
Will involve a lot of busing and fast ferry service, as the venue will be 80,000 capacity, but will have only 8300 parking spaces on site.
New ticketing system would be put in place assigning the ticketholder a specific place to go to catch the transportation to the venue.
ABSOLUTELY NO walk up/drive up business allowed- no ticket, no entry. Not assigned a parking spot on site, don't bother driving cause you ain't getting in....
Of course, SI residents will have first crack at tickets and on site parking....
Should be interesting....they're gonna have to tweek it alot before it gets approved....
Is it feasable to add a train/metro stop there at all? What's the closest stop to there walking distance?
There used to be a rail system along the north shore of the island, which the current borough president is trying to revive. It only serves the island thought. He wants this rail system brought back as part of the track. He also wants this to connect to a light rail system over to NJ.
It will probably be implemented- the thinking is that the ISC folks introduced the plan, and deliberately made it vague. Then they will "introduce" new ideas after "discussions with the locals", all the while they have had these ideas ready. Hey, whatever they need to do, ya know?
I haven't read the whole report, so I don't know all the fine points. But there's no rail system coming directly on to SI.
Fast ferries, possibly coming from as far away as Philly, and buses from lots all up and down the coast of Jersey would be used. Looking at something like 100 boats, and 800 buses to be in use.
Will people be allowed to bring RVs and camp in the infield? That's the real action at NASCAR. I actually can't imagine a NASCAR race that people don't drive to.
I think that a NYC nascar track is a mistake. I recently read that the NASCAR audience has topped out and is even in a bit of a decline. Call it settling, as the sport grew really fast, but not all of those people are staying and the numbers of new fans are not growing like they were. Combined with everyone building these new 80-100K tracks, there are a suprising number of tickets being left unsold these days, from what I understand.
I think the next "big thing" in NASCAR will be building replicas of old school short tracks, sort of like the new/old/school baseball stadiums they have been building.
there goes the Nabe~ SI.
coming soon_ Chateau SI NASCAR Bed & Breakfast !
I'll float ya some start up cash-
this is gold, SI....GOLD!!!
>>Will people be allowed to bring RVs and camp in the infield?
No. This is one of the more interesting points I noted myself.
Traffic on the island is an EXTREME issue. Highways and infrastructure are horribly outdated for the number of people living here. In order to make this work, they need to take extreme measures to reduce the amount of traffic coming on to the island.
>>I think that a NYC nascar track is a mistake.
They really need to break in to the NY market. Yes, they have Watkins Glen, and Pocono, in the general area, but nothing in the metro area.
As with any sport, popularity comes in waves. In order to increase the numbers, you've got to break in to new markets.
>>I think the next "big thing" in NASCAR will be building replicas of old school short tracks,
The SI track will be 3/4 mile, so they are going back to short track. The capacity will be 80,000. Same situation as the new stadiums- going old school, but not cutting down on the capacity.
>>coming soon_ Chateau SI NASCAR Bed & Breakfast !
If they put this track in, this will pretty much be the situation. I'd have my two brothers, and various others, coming over from PA. Also would have some of the Nascar freaks from the sports section here, I'm sure....might have folks setting up tents in the back yard...
The catch-22 on my part: could be interesting to be the safety guy at the track, but then I'd have to work during race days.
bro~ its freakin NASCAR.
these fans will sleep in your garage
OOHHHHH!!!!
Dude....
after the race, fans LITERALLY park by the side of the road and wait for the trailers hauling the cars to go by just so they can wave at them.
Some freaky sh*t bro....
BUT
most surveys find that Nascar fans have the highest per capita income of any fans of the "major" sports
Hell I could fit a good 10 folks or so in the garage...
i must live in the wrong part of the country or something.
NASCAR without infield camping? That's hard to imagine.
I don't blame you for being excited, but it sounds like they are trying to stick a square peg in a round hole, if the infrastructure isn't there and they are going to have to make all these special arrangements to get people there. It also sounds like these will be the most expensive NASCAR tickets in the country, and NASCAR is already very expensive. But, then, people who live in Manhattan have more money than the rest of the country. And yes, your B&B idea sounds like a real winner.
I don't mean to jinx this, I hope it works, but I would not invest my money in this project.
Has NASCAR guaranteed them races?
whats the average NASCAR ducat run?
tell me its less than 25....please
I haven't been to a race in years, but I think they start at twice that for most races--for the worst seats.
Decent seats are easily $100.
damn~
I live in the same part of the country as schmegg, I guess.
though he could probably afford a ticket....he shops at WalMart you know
:}
whats a nascar?
if its the Rapper dude~
safe bet is an Escalade
>>if the infrastructure isn't there and they are going to have to make all these special arrangements to get people there.
The plot of land is being purchased by ISC, International Speedway Corp., which is the corporate side of Nascar. ISC is run by the France family. They own Daytona, and a bunch of other tracks around the country. (Don't know if you knew that or not...)
Part of the traffic report included improvements to infrastructure- new exits from highways, etc. This would all be done by ISC, no public funding.
>>whats the average NASCAR ducat run?
tell me its less than 25....please
Good seats to Talladega this year ran about $75 each.
>>Has NASCAR guaranteed them races?
Yes. Two weekends total throughout the year. 1 Nascar/Busch, 1 Indy. I know that ISC is not Indy car, but I believe that's part of the deal.
I sorta agree with your square peg in a round hole type deal, but I also think that shows how much Nascar wants to break in to the NY area.
whats a nascar?
>>>>>>>>>>>
I'll answer that one, simply put..
Its a big group of white racists driving around an oval track crashing into each other.
(hope that helps) Nascar racists..They won't even let any japanese drivers or cars in the sport.
The parking lot issue can be solved by "The Danny", just call him.Really it appears by the plan they have already consulted Snyder.
For the Skins, you either taake a shuttle for 5 bucks or pay 25 bucks for a parking pass near the stadium, and even if you have a pass if your late you probably don't get in the lot..
The pedestrians just won a court battle to be allowed walking access to the stadium, all of last year they would stop you if you tried to walk to the stadium...
Its a clusterfuck unless you get there at least 2 hours early...Seats 85,000 I think, and we have maybe 50,000 parking spots...
So you can do the math, 80,000 people need to park somewhere...
The plan is to institute a new ticketing system. When you buy your ticket, they assign you a place to pick up your shuttle, be it bus or ferry. That's the only place you can go to park. At the lot, they check your ticket to make sure you are you, and you're at the right place. If you're at the wrong place, you're SOL.
the math dont add up to me.
85 thou seats
50 thou spots
what you need is an HOV Lot!
It may be less than 50k.2 1/2 people per car on the average. They also won't let you in the gold lot with an inferior green lot pass, your sol and may even be towed if you violate...
The great thing about Nascar races is you can bring your own beer in in coolers and park your Camper in the infield, put chairs up on the roof and your set up pretty,, redneck style..
Camp at your car.
thats what i dug bout Vibes and Grey Fox
