HOT TUNA featuring Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen
"Acoustic and Electric"
Tuna’s on tour again and this year it’s electric and acoustic! Jorma’s chats about the development of this tour’s show. “As we listen to the old material culling pieces out for performance we find that we are walking in a deep, rich mine. The earliest incarnations of Hot Tuna were me playing acoustic guitar and Jack playing electric bass. Over the years we explored a number of different paths, from pure acoustic to the most electric of shows. Acoustic… electric… what’s in a name? It has always been about treatment of the music. This fall we’re joined by our friend Barry Mitterhoff, one of the world’s great living mandolin players who will play a number of instruments in addition to his mandolin, and Erik Diaz, a great drummer and percussionist who quite simply, can play any music placed in front of him and do it with soul. It’s going to be a good fall!”
Eagle Rock Entertainment www.eaglerockent.com announces the re-release of three classic Hot Tuna albums that capture the world-famous band in clubs performance in the 1990s: Live at Sweetwater I, Live at Sweetwater II, and Live in Japan. Since forming as an d blues spin-off band from the Jefferson Airplane in 1969, acoustic Hot Tuna www.hotuna.com has flourished creatively with founders Jorma Kaukonen (vocals, guitar) and Jack Casady (bass) celebrating the joy and beauty they find in American folk music from the first few decades of the 2oth century. These three albums are at once an excellent introduction to unplugged Hot Tuna and manna from heaven for fans of the band who’ve held out hope for the return of these original Relix albums.
Acoustic Hot Tuna makes its most compelling music in cozy, intimate clubs, where they put fresh spins on, first and foremost, Reverend Gary Davis’s folk-blues but also Robert Johnson’s Mississippi Delta blues, Jelly Roll Morton’s singular New Orleans jazz, Woody Guthrie’s Great Depression-era folk songs, Jefferson Airplane favorites, etc. On the two albums taped at Sweetwater in Mill Valley, California, Hot Tuna—Kaukonen, Cassidy, Michael Falzarano (guitar, mandolin) and Pete Sears (keyboards)--get to the heart of tradition-rooted songs written by Jorma and classics from the American music past.

Hey Dave,
Are you going to be at the Albany Show on 12/5?
I don't have tix yet but if you're going to be there... I'd like to meet you in person and will do my best to make the show to say hey and help out at the table or at least learn more about the New England Organ Bank.
Peace,
Hoff

Sorry...no can do Hot Tuna at The Egg. Out of our NEOB area but that's never slowed me down before.Organ Donor Awareness is'nt measured in miles. Just too many miles, lotsa extra gasoline burned, too many other shows to table this week without racin'& risking life and limb over Hogback Mt., VT. this snowy icing time of year. Kinda hairy at 3am in a blinding blizzard driving through mountainous VT. to ever more mountainous NH home after a long night. Git up next day and do it all over againnnnnnnnnn. Shall I do future shows in Albany? You bet. I'd be more than happy and delighted to have you on board for the hep kats meeting, NEOB tabling and phun.
Bummer, I was hoping to get to meet The Major Domo live and in person....oh well, I'm sure our paths will meet furthur on up the road.
Peace,
Hoff
