Politics Archive 2004:
Animal Farm
whew, read this last night -- probably read it in middle school, but more likely was assigned to read it and chose to play Atari 2600 instead.
Anyway, it's a great - very scary - read. "All Animals are equal, but some are more equal than others". "SNOWBALL DID IT". So many great lines... and while I realize it's written about the dangers of Soviet-style socialism/totalitarianism, much of it rings true today... Squealer always telling everyone not to worry, just trust the pigs. The sheep and their bleeting "two legs bad, four legs good".
If you havent read it - read it - if you've read it a long time ago - read it again.
Thoughts?
Re-read it just a couple of years ago. One of my favorite books. George Orwell was poking fun at the Soviets with both this and 1984 -- but he was also issuing a stern warning.
Animal Farm was written in 1946. 1948 was written in 1948.
My how the States have changed.
try pink floyd animals.
just read animal farm for the first time last year and it definatly rings true today. terrorism is the new communism.
1984 is becoming dangerously close in some ways. Orwell has a lot of foresight.
don't need to read it again, now I'm living through it
1984 scenario has arrived, it's here, it's thriving , it's alive and well and living in the u.s.a.
"All Animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".
see: Hindu caste system
"All is god and all is one....but some are more one than others!"
i think of our current situation as a nice balance between 1984 and brave new world. amused to death, great book.
