Does he bring the midget with him? His pitching days are thru, might as well hit the freak show circuit.

God no, say it ain't so ! I personally don't want to see Pedro in pinstripes, he is not worthy of them IMO !
Seriously though, this jumping from team to team does get old. I admire guys greatly that stick with one team these days, that is a rarity in professional sports. Def. would rather see Pedro remain a nemesis with Boston, than attempt to welcome him as a Yankee !

Report: Mets make Pedro offer
New York said to make three-year bid for Martinez
By Bryan Hoch / Special to MLB.com

Pedro Martinez has spent the last seven seasons with the Red Sox. (Adam Hunger/AP)

The Mets may have jumped to the head of the pack for free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez.
New York has offered Martinez a three-year guaranteed contract worth approximately $37.5 million, several newspapers reported Tuesday. Neither the Mets nor Martinez's agent, Fernando Cuza, would confirm or deny the offer.

If the reported numbers are correct, the Mets' offer to the 33-year-old righthander would appear to trump the one put forth by the Boston Red Sox in recent weeks.

Boston's original offer to Martinez was reported to guarantee Martinez two more seasons with the defending World Series champions at a rate of $25.5 million, with the 2007 season available through incentive-based options. It has been reported, though not confirmed, that the Red Sox have since guaranteed the third year to Martinez.

Martinez is coming off the final year of a seven-year, $90 million contract, in which he went 16-9 with a career-high 3.90 ERA. Both reported offers to Martinez average $12.5 million per season; he earned $17.5 million with Boston this past season.

The New York Times reported that the Mets made their offer to Martinez's camp on Sunday, three days after Mets general manager Omar Minaya met with the three-time Cy Young Award winner over Thanksgiving dinner in their native Dominican Republic.

While it is unknown what was discussed through the course of Minaya's meeting with Martinez, it is almost certain that the pair discussed the possibility of Martinez pitching at Shea Stadium in 2005 -- a topic that Martinez broached himself with reporters in December 2003.

"I've pitched well, really well, in New York all-time, in Shea Stadium (5-1, 1.17 ERA in seven games)," Martinez told the Boston Herald then, "so I always have that team in mind."

Competition for Martinez's services has proven to be high. The right-hander had already solicited serious interest from both the Red Sox and the Yankees. Martinez met with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner in Tampa, Fla., on Nov. 17.

Considering the apparent interest of those clubs, the possibility of Martinez heading to the Mets appeared to be something of a wild card, and only began to take serious formation after free agent left-hander Al Leiter and the Mets were unable to come to an understanding regarding a potential one-year contract.

With Leiter exploring the open market, the Mets appear to be taking a proactive approach to filling the final spot in their pitching rotation.

The Mets have already re-signed free agent Kris Benson, who is projected with returning hurlers Tom Glavine, Steve Trachsel and Victor Zambrano to make up four of the Mets' five starting pitchers.

Bryan Hoch is a contributor to MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.

>Def. would rather see Pedro remain a nemesis with Boston, than attempt to welcome him as a Yankee !<

What Yankee fan in his right mind wouldn't. They hit him better than the guy that pitches batting practice. His ERA the last few games against the yankees had to be in the low 20's

But they still beat them bastards. Go Tribe

I think he met with the yankees also but no offer yet.

Just catching that now Greg ! I assumed when the thread said NY that it was the Yankees ! We all know what happens when you assume !!

Oh well, the Mets can have him fine by me ! Again though, why wouldn't he not want to stay with the Sox, especially after what they just accomplished. It bugs me that there is very little allegiance to a given team any more, and I know this has been going on a long time, but it still bugs me ! Guys like Tony Gwynnn are few and far between any more !

>If that cock fighting red sox cock sucker comes to the mets I will stop being a met fan..

Yep I might have to blend in with the Giants fans out here next year...

My 89 yr old grandma is a long time Mets fan and she is pissed! its too funny to listen to her, she busted out with a Melvin Mora reference recently that floored me haha

>Great let Al go and sign Pedro..No f--king sense..

I used to think it was all Steve Phillips, but its gotta be the Wilpons. Pedro and Sosa will put people in the $tand$. thats all they care about.

Since they want to spend serious money, they should pursue freeagents Carlos Beltran and Carl Pavano (Marlin pitcher) instead. Even though they would be more expensive, theyre far better players overall, plus a lot younger.

Fog, that acqusition all but guarantees you a wild card berth. however, you still don't measure up to our Damian Miller-Pat Borders combo we have hooked up.:-)

The mets are idiots...I don't know why I follow them anymore. Atleast they are willing to throw money at ballplayers....too bad its the wrong ball players. But maybe it's a good move. They need all the pitching help they can get and maybe it'll be a boost for the other pitchers. I'm sorry...I'm dreaming again.

Which brings me to the giants. Have they seen Armando pitch in the playoffs. Why any team would want that guy is beyond me. Good for the season but when the pressures on Poof!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/12...x.htm

Anna Benson, the former model and stripper who is married to Mets pitcher Kris Benson, vowed yesterday that if she ever catches her husband cheating, she'll have sex with all his teammates.

The buxom brunette, proclaimed "Baseball's Hottest Wife" by FHM magazine, said on Howard Stern's nationally syndicated radio show:

"I told him [Kris] — because that's the biggest thing in athletics, they cheat all the time — I told him, cheat on me all you want. If you get caught, I'm going to s- - -w everybody on your entire team — coaches, trainers, players. I would do everybody on his whole team."

"Mike Piazza just did a back flip," Stern said, egging her on. "Even the coaches? What about, like, the bat boys?"

"Everybody would get a turn," Anna pledged. "If my husband cheated on me and embarrassed me like that, I will embarrass him more than he could ever imagine."

Even Robin Quivers got in on it: "What about groundskeepers?"

"If I'm lining them up," Anna said, "I'll [also] circle into other teams. Whatever team he's playing, I will s- - -w all them too."

Stern asked: "What if your husband, the great pitcher, comes to you and says, 'Honey, I need two women at the same time. I need you to do that for me?' "

Anna replied, "You know, if that's what he came to me and said that he needed, then that's what he would get, because he is my entire universe. I adore my husband. He's a saint . . . he took me out of hell" — a reference to her years on her own.

She added that she and Benson are so into each other, they've had sex in many of the stadiums where he's pitched, including PNC Park and Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.

"We're very busy because we have three children," she said. "You know what, whenever we get the time to do it, we do it. If it happens to be there, that's where we do it.

"I take total care of him," Anna continued, taking credit for the negotiations for Benson's most recent contract that guarantees him $22.5 million over three years, with an option for 2008 that would push the total package to $29.5 million.

"I helped with negotiations . . . I went back and forth a lot with that. He didn't even have anything to do with that. I did that deal . . . I laid out a lot of the terms."

It will never be topped, Key. The curse has been foisted onto the Mets now. You'll spend and spend - but get nothin' in the end. "1986" will be the new chant our grandchildren will hear echoing from Shea in 50 years.

Nice Who show you sent - great quality audio - you like the dvd of the Essen show I sent?
