Poughkeepsie gets all the shows..!
I just got back my self, i was sittin home watching the rain through my window, screw this im going up to the bardavon, saw the most incredible sunset after the storm going up the
thruway. hot dam i was in the tenth row, what a great place, its over 100 year old opera house.
actually they say its the oldest opera house in the U.S. Cookies and coffee/tea for sale in the lobby
and a loaded bar, my kinda place. The drummer rocked tonight, and the Funky was smokin, well you know when your a tuna fan its all good. they
were cracking jokes about the noisey hollering that is the beacon. Its great to see
tuna in a rockin east coast place like the beacon when fans are rabid, yelling hot f'n tuna, i heard someone at the beacon yelled out 'f*ck this
counrty and western acoustic shit jorma, break out the electric! , they love it, but they also
like mello crowds as well, i liked the show alot tonight, saw some old friends good for the soul.Im glad you enjoyed it too mule man.
>>>Recordings came out awesome!>>>
Jorma and Jack with a drummer are dangerous.
my post from the other thread, i figured it is better off here in the review thread.
Great Reviews, i missed the beacon but i went to the keswick near philly and the bardavon up in pougkeepsie last night, wow what a weekend.
Here is a brief review of the keswick...
I am a big Tuna fan so there wont be too much complainin here. First off the Keswick is a great venue, and old east coast theatre, 80 years old maybe, broad floor big stage, kind security.
I had a nice seat in front of jack about 4 th row.
Hung out pre show at the stage with my pack on the stage checking out all of tunas gear with some nice folks from philly, very laid back atmosphere but you could feel the excitment in the air, after witnessing all the guitars and the
drum kit, it was clear TUNA was in the house and ready to ROCK. Nice town , i had a muffin and tea at a groovy lil coffee shop next door , chatted with and old friend briefly outside the place and then it was show time.

12. Encore: Feel So Good
The first set was nice, Jorma was doing some decent acousy solos and barry was really a hum dinger with his mandolin thingys. How Long Blues was a treat and 99 year blues was hot, jack went off and did a few bass bombs and got the show
rollin towards a heavy mark. Oh and the sound was nice and loud where i was , really loud and clear.
This was nice acoustic set before electric, a festive holiday crowd in a sweet theatre. A nice 15-20 min break then the second set.
Well anticipation was high for this set, electric hot tuna in philadelphia, the crowd was sitting but stoked and tuned in , i was foaming at the mouth at 4 th row!.
BEEN SO LONG SINCE I FELT AT HOME IN THE MIRROR!!!
A Haunting little old Gem from the Tuna Archive,
Jorma had on his sun fire acoustic with pick ups strapped on and they were all standing and Jorma appeared FIRED UP!!!
Well you tuna heads who know this song well you know that rolly polly guitar/drum build up thingy they do towards the end of been so long, well they did it hot, with Jorma leanin into Jack
facing each other in front of the drums..dootl ootle dootle ootle dootle oootle.....DUN DUN DUN DAH, You Tuna heads Know what im talkin about!!!!
IT WAS HOT , Sent the crowd into a bit of a frenzy! Jorma knows how to bring it to his fans.
After that Jorma strapped on big Red and wailed heavy with i wish you would, hit single, a hot funky, and a BLISTERING ROCK ME BABY , that was it man, the hall was echoing with "HOT F**CKIN JORMA!!.."HOT TUNA" "BRINGIN DOWN THE HOUSE JORMA!!!! " the place was rabid!!! well atleast from the 4th row i was in! Jorma was on fire for this set, and jack was hot too, barry would do a
sweet lil solo on his mando, and Jorma would then thunder away with some raunchy ass phsycadelic blues while jack pounded away like a mad man.
I like the drummer alot, nice rolling sound, hard
chops and up in there , sweet drummer IMO. Jorma was doin stuff like turnin' his back to the audience and workin a little feed back out of his guitar while hopping up and down on his ankles in front of the drum kit...YOU TUNA HEADS KNOW WHAT IM TALKIN BOUT' Hot Tuna ROCKIN' The EASTERN SEABOARD BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
****the encore was actually Come Back Baby not Feel So Good which Jorma put in his diary, he made a mistake he must of been out of it from the wailing set him and jack just ripped! But they did sound check it i heard. Come Back Baby was scorching,Tuna was in the House!!! and the House was a comin Down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Electric Tuna in 2004 baby, get it while its hot!
Very sweet review. Thanks!
The beacon rocked hard too!!!
It was 70's Tuna but at lower volume.
Quotes from the Tuna Roadies"Beacon SUCKED!!!I had to lmao...

My son Liam went to his first concert EVER with his father to Tuna at the Bardavon Opera House on his birthday SUnday! He loved it, I am happy to say.
His new favorite saying, "If you don't have Jorma, you ain't got Jack"
"..if you dont know jorma, you dont know jack!"
get it right mom.

//
my Bud who was at the show said the band was goofin on the beacon show throughout the night
" Not quite as noisey as last night, eh?" - Jorma
" FUCKIN BARRY!!! I think that one offended his bluegrass sensibilities." ~ jack
thats good stuff

Some stage banter at the Bardavon...

keep your lamps trimmed n burnin' zoners, later...

here is one more..

Apparently Jorma is now anti-taper and taping is banned from future Tuna/Jorma shows. Just got this email from a friend - this is an excerpt of a post from DNC:
"...Several tapers were denied entry with gear. Most (hopefully not all) were not prepared to run stealth setups because of Jorma's & tuna's longstanding wide open taping policy, and because of their past experience having no problem bringing gear into the Egg (no heavy search effort by venue) at shows of a variety of bands. There was no message on their web site, and it was a surprise to every taper I saw arrive. I asked Cathy Ackerman, new tour manager, why cameras and taping equipment were not being allowed in tonight, and she said it's gotten out of hand. She said the fast upload of the show (I'm sure she was referring to the Bardavon show on bt.etree, which was running just hours after the show, and has already been vined on dnc) was disrespectful to the artist, and that taping was over and done from now on. I had a long discussion with her (with another man she was in conversation with when I asked to speak with her - he chimed in with the phrase "they abused the privilege" and she looked into my eyes and said "it only takes one, right" like my fourth grade teacher) and told her that the one person whose recording I had seen up for bt had relocated to the board from a 5-row-closer/better seat to respect the audience (stand height) at the Bardavon, that I was sure had he known (had any taper known) that the band preferred a delay before posting a show on bt, or that the recordings not even be shared on line, that preference would be respected and that any such communication was not even attempted and I was sure he (the taper) had no idea he was doing anything to upset the band. I also pointed out the advertising and support tapers and recordings getting around provides for merchandise sales and the music, that most of the tapers I knew were among the first to purchase the commercial releases Jorma puts out... The discussion stayed friendly (sort of), and it went on for a while, with her telling me several times at the end to just enjoy the show. I had already gone through it with the venue (to get her name and pursue it this far), and spoke with an upset but very nice taper who put his gear in the car, who said he'll be yelling at Jorma about it next week when he sees him... who knows, I got his email address), but Cathy also used the excuse that it's not just the tapers, but who they give the tapes to...said Jorma was in full agreement..."
this is sad news....
if you allow taping, then turn around time from show to sharing shoulldn't be an issue for the artists.
I dont understand how this was disrepspectful, but its not my call i suppose.
..

Jorma/Tuna used to be restrictive in who they allowed to tape back in the '80's/early '90's as well - back then it was all about who had exclusive access backstage for ample rounds of *censored* Yes I know from firsthand experience . . .
He was in a band in 85 billed 'Here comes Jorma, There Goes the Neighborhood". I have a tape. My friends saw them at the now defunct club
manhatten's in Spring Valley NY. This was back when you could put your drinks on the stage and get a little rowdy.

whew!..gotta run for a while, enjoy
You know, I'm tellin' ya, who the fuck knows what's going on?
He is with Columbia and really I don't know what kind of deal there is for the whole,to tape or not.
What ya can do in the meantime is get up off your ass and go see them.
What I do know is they have been laying it down real sweet!!!
This tour has been the greatest tour so far and it's been nothing but the wildest!!!!
We are just going to have to wait see what is going to happen.
Please respect their wish in whatever they choose to do.
I just got back from the Talkhouse where the put on another barn burner of a show.
Stop all this talk and get out and go see the TUNA!!!
that last pic was clear as day earlier, now its blurry, hmmm , well i agree with you birches, any how, it was great to see them again.

Keep on Truckin Tuna, cause you done did it again ya did, you trucked my blues away........

We did nothing Wrong! We had permisson to set up@ the SBD.I sat with the archivist for the whole(entire)show. He knew we were talking about upload,if there was a different policy it should have been explained and the show and it would have never gone up fo DL.If I get DIRECT orders from any band..I FOLLOW THEM!
Did you get an INDIRECT order?
This from Vanessa Kaukonen...

Hot Tuna Taping Policy
Hot Tuna/Jorma Kaukonen/Jorma Trio/Blue Country/Jorma & Michael/Jorma &
Barry/(etc.) have NEVER given permission to the taping/trading community to post live show recordings as files for electronic download'. Traditional copying of cassettes, DATs, CDRs (wav, shn, mp3), and mailing among fans are OK, as most of the people sending and receiving are known, and the distribution is somewhat limited due to the manual process. However, posting a show on a FTP site, music file sharing server, or on bit-torrent schemes, allows mass distribution to unknown and uncontrolled numbers of recipients. The band's management is NOT OK with this type of distribution unless specific authorization has been requested and given. For example:
- a radio station posts an in-studio interview and performance on their
- website for download - it is only done with approval from the band's management.
The band IS 'Taper Friendly' > AUD taping is always OK and encouraged (except in cases where the venue or contract absolutely prohibits). SBD patches are not given - the SBD recording belongs to the band.
The band IS 'Trade Friendly' > Traditional copying, trading, mailing OK.
Posting the files on servers for any means of electronic download is NOT OK.
If those simple rules cannot be followed, the band may choose to become 'Non-Taper Friendly' and 'Non-Trade Friendly'.
=====
Jorma and Jack have always been very generous
with their music and respectful of their fans.
I suspect that most people that have bt'd
shows were unaware of the band's position re:
electronic file transfers (which is a relatively
new technology development). I was unaware
of their policies until I saw the note from
Vanessa.
They've set the boundries and guidelines.
Hopefully everyone will respect the artists'
wishes and will spread the word to help keep a
good thing going.
I damn sure will!
What about vines? I started one here on Philzone - I recognize pretty much everyone who signed up. Should it be "pulled" now?
>What about vines? Should it be "pulled" now?
from above:
The band IS 'Trade Friendly' > Traditional copying, trading, mailing OK.
Posting the files on servers for any means of electronic download is NOT OK.
with that said I think you are OK
So when do they come back to Northern California?
