6/25/88
6/26/93

Are two of my favorites I saw that stood out for a couple of reasons. Most of them are Phil related. There are many out there however.

That 10/15/83 Stranger is way good.

5/10/80 Hartford Civic Center - it was still new enough to be exploratory and open-ended - Bob hadn't had time to add his cheez to it - this version has a slow snaky groove with PHIL bombs and they just MELT into Comes A Time SO well - always has been my fav . . .

fox theatre, atlanta,ga. 10/29/85. sounded great from the front row. this whole tour kicked ass. its was always nice to start tours in fla. also 10/9/89 in hampton, the WARLOCKS SHOWS. this too was a great tour, and it ended in miami with a mind altering dark star.

Fairgrounds in Lewiston Maine 9.6.80. By far the longest and jammingest I'm aware of. They play through the regular part of the song, and then the jam, and then get to the part where the Stranger theme is re-stated and the song usually flows into its series of closing riffs. But Jerry eases off instead, and continues into a new and different phase, playing some chords while the band oozes a unique jazz/ funk jam behind him. There are probably four or five extra minutes of inspiration stuck in there. Hopefully some of you can give it a listen and rate it here too. A phat new version of this gig was lately on the etree BT page. The entire show shreds outrageously. This was one of those 13 song first sets that they used to do on the last show of a tour. The Stranger was in the middle of the first set, and is my favorite. Also contains one of the three best Sugaree's I heard (other two were Binghamton '79 and Lake Placid '83).

Stranger honorable mentions also to Hartford '80 as described by Sideshow (the transition into Brent's first Comes a Time will bend your mind); Harrisburg City Island '83; Charlotte '84.

>>check out 10-15-83 great show opener

My first show and it has stood the test of time. A great Stranger. All the ones mentioned here sound ass-kicking Strange, though.

A question: 9/6/80, Hartford 80, Harrisburg 83-- any of those second set openers?

The SPAC 85 was just downright bizarre. It has a REALLY abrupt transition into >Eyes.

That 9/6 Stranger was really cool, but what stole that show for me was the Althea. It was simply supurb. It "Walks" if you know what I mean. Maybe not, but that's what I was thinking of when I listened to it. Jerry walking the band and the fans down the street.

That whole show beginning with Stranger is smokin'.
