Music Talk Archive 2004:
AL KOOPER
When it comes to Al i'm just a novice. i recall when "A Brand New Day" came out in 1969 and was blown away by the enery of the track. I know of his session work and some stuff he did with Paul Butterfield and such. I just got today AL KOOPER RARE & WELL DONE ...2 cd's for $12.99. I just started on the 2nd disc which most RAVE about. But if you like variety that 1st disc is where it's at. Man oh man. When it comes to single musicians they can get bogged down in the same sound, but with this release he goes all over the place.
I must add that the first track on disc 2 "I Can't Keep from Cryin Sometime (Live)" is A M A Z I N G.......especially surrounded with speakers .
love this disc
he's playing in northampton mass...but on a "school night"...so i can't go
Is "Bury my Body" on that release? I think that tune flat out jams. If so, Im going shopping!
Bury My Body is on Kooper Session with Shuggie Otis on gtr and 15 yrs old at the time of the recording, great lp I got a Japanese cd of it a few yrs ago
I just looked up compilation tracks and "Bury My Body" is on the second disk. Will be on the way to pick this up after work... I had no idea it existed

I enjoyed his autobiography "Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards"
I remember seeing him in a band with Freebo and several Little Feat members in the early '80's in some dive bar - was pretty damned good show - I taped it w/a D-6 and Radio Shack mic's - wonder if I could ever find it now?
with little feat...very cool...kooper and feat
"BUry My Body Lord" is one of the smokeinest trackes i've ever heard~!!!.....a nice "put-together" cd would be that and then a Blind Boyz of Alabama rocker~!!!!
My god I think youve got it... team Al Kooper up with the Blind Boys. That would be fun!
just saw them on "go tell it on the mountain" pbs
randolph on steel...
i think it was james montgomery on harp...
kooper on keys would be very cool
I loved the Super Session with Steve Stills and Mike Bloomfield. He really gets around. For a nice web site check out www.alkooper.com
I found a book that Al Kooper had co-written several years ago. It was a short, byt entertaining read. He shared details from a bunch of his session work jobs. I don't recall the title.
Review of the Northampton, MA show. Need to catch him next time he's around:
