St.Knick
no backin' down in Naptown!!!
>>>>Ben Wallace instigated the riot with his overreaction to a meaningless foul
NO
BW instigated a fight that Artest did a FANTASTIC JOB of staying out of, especially considering basketball is supposedly his passion.
Normally he doesnt back down. I lightly applaud him for being the bigger man there(his mocker on the scorer's table aside).
So after that how could you LOSE YER MARBLES over a a cup of ICE,BEER,WATER, Whatever. It doesnt add up to me. He SHOWED his ASS. He musta had some new high dolla moisterizer on his face to keep him from breakin out - sweatproof non-waterproof.
SUSPENSION ACROSS THE BOARD ARE WAY TOO LIGHT, IMO.
So he goes from TRYINGTOAVOIDSUSPENSIONARTEST to DUMBIDIOTOVERREACTINGARTEST.
Vernon Maxwell only got 10 games for going into the stands and that was for a fan who was verbally abusing him. Artests' actions concerning those two young fatso punks who came onto the court and challenged him was pure self defense and shouldn't be taken into consideration when deciding his penalty.
Well, Artest is out for the rest of the season...Oneil for 30, Jackson for 25, a few others for 5-6, a few others for 1 (for leaving the bench during the original player altercation...)
Sorry Jackson for 30 games...I think O'Neil got 25.
Your team is down by 15 with what, 25 seconds left. WHY is Artest giving him a tomahawk chop of a foul at that point?
Oh, and you lose Artest alone for 72 games. Then you lose Jackson for 30 and O'Neill for 25.
Serves 'em right.
Think anyone else is gonna go in to the stands?
Now let's wait for the criminal charges to start piling up....
>>God help Detroit when they come here on Christmas Day...I know Pacer fans would have forgotten about this by Xmas but now thats no longer the case, fans are gonna be PISSED and we've got a month to stew over it...Ben Wallace should do himself and his team a favor and go home fer Christmas, don't even show up in Indy...cuz its gonna get nasty, mark my words...
Now THERE'S a good attitude for ya. Yeah, let's beat up some of their players cause ours were BEYOND idiots and went in to the stands and got suspended for it.
please....
NBA suspends Artest for rest of season; eight players get shorter bans
By CHRIS SHERIDAN
NEW YORK (AP) - Ron Artest was suspended for the rest of the season Sunday as the NBA came down hard on three members of the Indiana Pacers for fighting with fans when a melee broke out at the end of a game against the Detroit Pistons.
Overall, nine players from the teams were banned for 143 games, including some of the harshest penalties the league ever issued. Artest is the first player to be suspended for nearly an entire season for a fight during a game.
Indiana's Stephen Jackson was suspended for 30 games and Jermaine O'Neal for 25. Detroit's Ben Wallace - whose shove of Artest after a foul led to the 5-minute fracas - drew a six-game ban, while Pacers guard Anthony Johnson got five games.
Four players were suspended for a game apiece: Indiana's Reggie Miller, and Detroit's Chauncey Billups, Elden Campbell and Derrick Coleman.
All of the suspensions are without pay.
Artest, O'Neal and Jackson - who all threw punches at fans in the stands or on the court at the end of the Pacers-Pistons game Friday night - began serving their suspensions Saturday. Indiana, limited to just six players because of the suspensions and injuries, dropped an 86-83 decision to Orlando.
``The actions of the players involved wildly exceeded the professionalism and self-control that should fairly be expected from NBA players,'' NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement, adding that the league must not ``allow our sport to be debased by what seem to be declining expectations.''
The NBA also has to ``redefine the bounds of acceptable conduct for fans attending our games and resolve to permanently exclude those who overstep those bounds,'' Stern said.
He added that security procedures in all NBA arenas will be reviewed and rules need to be added to prevent a repeat of what happened at Auburn Hills, Michigan, on Friday.
The brawl was particularly violent, with Artest and Jackson bolting into the stands near center court and throwing punches at fans after debris was tossed at the players.
Later, fans who came onto the court were punched in the face by Artest and O'Neal.
Nine people were treated for injuries, and police are investigating possible criminal charges.
Wallace began the fracas by delivering a hard, two-handed shove to Artest after Wallace was fouled on a drive to the basket with 45.9 seconds remaining. After the fight ended, the referees called off the rest of the game.
The initial skirmish wasn't all that bad, with Artest retreating to the scorer's table and lying atop it after Wallace sent him reeling backward. But when a fan tossed a cup at Artest, he stormed into the stands, throwing punches as he climbed over seats.
Jackson joined Artest and threw punches at fans, who punched back. At one point, a chair was tossed into the fray.
The most recent example of an NBA player going into the stands and punching a fan came in February 1995, when Vernon Maxwell of the Houston Rockets pummeled a spectator in Portland. The league suspended him for 10 games and fined him $20,000.
Among the harshest non-drug-related penalties in NBA history was a one-year suspension of Latrell Sprewell - later reduced to 68 games - for choking Golden State Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo at practice.
Kermit Washington of the Los Angeles Lakers drew a 60-day (26-game) suspension in 1977 for a punch that broke the jaw of the Houston Rockets' Rudy Tomjanovich during a game, while Dennis Rodman was suspended 11 games for kicking a courtside cameraman in the groin and six games for head-butting a referee.
Artest was benched for two games this month for asking Pacers coach Rick Carlisle for time off because of a busy schedule that included promoting a rap album.
Artest was suspended twice by the NBA last season, once for leaving the bench during a fracas at a Pacers-Celtics playoff game; the other for elbowing Portland's Derek Anderson. During the 2002-03 season, Artest was suspended five times by the NBA and once by the Pacers for a total of 12 games.
Artest also once grabbed a television camera and smashed it to the ground after a loss to the Knicks two years ago.

Artest had already done plenty to get suspended for well before those punks came on the court. That situation looks like self-defense. Going into the stands after someone tossed a drink on him, that looks like retaliation. Two completely different & separate situations. ?I've heard so many players already say he was justified, because you have to act when someone "disrespects" you. I think these guys need to lay off the gangsta rap and deal with reality. Eminent threats demand self-defense. Absolutely no question about that. Getting wet by a drink, well, that demands a little restraint.
After thinking about this for a while I'll have to say that I agree with Dean Smith.
Anyone who watches the NBA should not have been surprised by the actions of Ron Artest, he is a punk who fights ALL THE TIME-
J O'Neil and S Jackson were blatantly in the wrong.
But the real idiot was the fan who stepped up to take a punch on the court, his name was Haddad I think. You have to be on some really good sshit to think you can take a punch from any of those ballers. And they don't back down, ever, especially when some fat little drunk-ass tries to talk shit-
Ben Wallace did nothing wrong, and should not be suspended, Stern did it to make things look fair.
I was mostly offended that this went down in the Palace...I caught so many good shows there and had a flashback while watching the fight take place in the very same spot where I grooved to 'New Speedway Boogie' in the summer of '93
>>>WHY is Artest giving him a tomahawk chop of a foul at that point?
that was touchy foul.... You are right in the fact that there was no need to foul..but there was no need to go at somebody's throat for that pat on the back.
>>>>Ben Wallace did nothing wrong, and should not be suspended
Yeah, jackin someone in throat is nothing wrong...are you crazy? 5 games seems about right.
it was just a little push...
purely coincidental that Artests neck got in the way
I'll admit I went a 'lil overboard...but come on the Detroit Thug fans just assured the Pistons an easy ride to the playoffs cuz the don't have to deal with a healthy, complete Pacer team...My problem is the lack of parity in the whole thing the Pacers took the brunt of the blame...what about the Pistons fans, organization, NBA and Auburn Hills Police...who are also partially to blame for this incident...the Pistons should A)forfeit 'bout 10-15 games or B)play 10-15 games that are closed to the public(thus punishing the organization finacially)....I'll tell u there are alot of PISSED OFF season ticket holders here in Naptown...Stern's harsh punishment has made Pacer season tickets(which are impossible to get) worthless...the Piston's were following NBA mandates for security, why dosen't David Stern punish himself?? They were following his inadequate security measures...And the Auburn Hills Po-Po, where were they??? by the time they got on the court it was basically over...why did the Pacers Coaches have to shield their players and run the gauntlet with NO security or police protection???
>>God help Detroit when they come here on Christmas Day...
my point was that Pacer fans are going to be extremely vocal when the Pistons come to Indy...Naptown folks are to mellow to get violent @ a Pacers game, but they will voice their displeasure...The Pacers where a 12 to 1 shot fer the Championship, now the Vegas odds are 100 to 1...Why do we have to take the brunt of a unfair, slanted punishment while the Pistons, and their organization, get a slap on the wrist...
I think thats enough ranting fer today...i gotta go practice my rebounding and boxin' out so I'll be fresh fer the tryouts on Saturday
Naptown is a pretty lame nickname for a town, but it makes sense as watching their teams in the playoffs always makes me sleepy-
"what are you the heat?"

Big Ben should have recieved the same suspension he would have if thier hadn't been a riot. He had nothing to do with Atrest going into the stands. Whay should he recieve 6 games??
Artest was pissed buy didn't have the balls to go toe to toe with Big Ben so he took it out on the fans. he's a fucking idiot!
Oneil has the best case for a reduced suspension. He wasn't involved in the original player altercation, never entered the stands, and punched (the shit) out of that fan who had come onto the court with his buddy to challenge artest to a duel. That fracas alone I think was worth 5 games.
He did however look like he was going to rip a few heads off in the stands on his way into the tunnel if there weren't 5 people restraining him. But can you get suspended for something you might have done?
Can you imagine what goes through someone's head whilst stepping up to the likes of Jermaine O'neill?
His arm is the size of....me
>>>> that fan who had come onto the court with his buddy to challenge artest to a duel.
Those two guys were (alledgedly) Pistons' ball boys. They never went on the floor because they were already on the floor. Did anyone notice the towels in their hands? I am not gonna say that that one guy didn't square off at Artest and set himself up for a crack in the jaw by "Mr. Psycho" himself because he did but "in a sense" I feel that he, in a fucked up sort of way WAS a Piston or better yet, employed by the Piston organization. Does this make him a target? I guess it does if he bows up to you when you are in a rage. If Artest could have kept his cool though, victim #2 would have gotten away unscathed but instead he posted up and got knocked the fugg down. I guees he should not have fucked with Ron Ar Testy Testy Testies!"
I still say NO EXCUSE!
BTW: What up St. Knick? How ya doin mang?
