Baseball Roadtrip
Every year some friends and I do a road trip to see ballparks we haven't gone to yet. I am currently doing the research and it comes down to two, we need to do it early in the season due to family obligations and part of April is shot because of Passover, and May is sweeps month so Bob is out. So April 29-May 1 two possibles, first
Hoston-Austin(minor's plus the music scene at night-Dallas or Washington-Balt-Phila. Both have pluses, the latter I can drive, the former offers Austin, Opinions? Any Zoners along the way in any of those cities who like baseball and want to join us? No committment required at this time
Just my .02 ...if you are going for the baseball experience then hands down it's Baltimore & Philly.
Camden Yards is one of the best stadium scenes going since it opened a dozen yrs ago. Ripken Stadium 45 mins or so from BMore is pretty nice, so are the Bowie & Fredick stadiums (minor league).
Haven't been to the new park in Philly, but reviews have been very good. I'd like to catch a game there myself.
Music/nightlife wise you'd enjoy Austin bigtime...
BMore's music scene is very hit or miss, Philly much better. DC has a good scene (music wise), plus Georgetown & places in NO. Va other zoners could help you with.
Really its just a baseball trip. The Austin sidetrip was just to cut up the drive, I have been to Camden and love it, which is part of the problem, Balt-Dc-Philly, I have seen one and RFK been to for a Dead-Allman show in '73 and for baseball, who knows. So its really only one new one for me, On the other hand my man Bob has been to Arlington so it would only be one new one for him, I guess we will figure it out after the holidays. Thanks for the input
From a Tentative MLB schedule
4/29 FLA @ PHL
4/30 TB @ Balt
5/01 NYM @ Wash
If the schedule panned out like this that seems like it would be a nice weekend baseball roadtrip. I live half way between Phila and Balt and i'd be up for a trip like this. And coming from NY it wouldn't be to bad for you guys either (driving wise)
I've been to Camden Yard and Citizens Bank so it would be 1 new ballpark for me too....Looks like we have a theme. Keep me in mind Ed if you think this would work for you guys. I love baseball and I'm always up for meeting other Zoners
Mike
If we do this will will start in DC on Friday night and work North so as to head home after the Philly game, email me after the holidays (please put baseball trip in the subj) I should know by then if its on
The Cubs are Tenatively scheduled to be in Houston that weekend, and I am not positive but that is usually the last weekend of the Houston Rodeo-(while it may sound lame it is , next to Mardi Gras, IMO the best party around), Also, road tripping up to Austin is kind long for a weekend when H-town has more than enough to do. The Triple A team in Round Rock is sweet, IMO I would either hit Austin, or Houston either way it's a great time I would add weather into the equation if your coming to Texas that is the best time of the year to come. I live right outside of Houston, on a farm/ranch so if you make it down here you gotta stop in for some Texas Fungas and cold beer.
I have been told that Houston to Austin is 2 hours and Austin to Dallas the same, so that drive is doable. Are these estimates on drive time wrong?
It takes me closer to 3 hrs. for that trip all though everyone claims to do it it 2. Also, that's taking I10 which you can grab right in town, there are alternate routes. Minute Maid is off of 59, which leads north out of town.
Come on up to Oklahoma City if you want to sneak in a very nice minor league ballpark.
