?? on Other Ones 1998
Does anyone know the story of what happened that Stan Franks was kicked out and replaced with Karan & Kimock? I remember the band appraising him then they kick him out and he was in one of the Phil lineups. I was just curious if the truth leaked out after all this time of what happened.
I remember reading a quote from Weir where he said something to the effect of "while Frank was an amazing jazz-oriented guitarist, he wasn't completeky comfortable in out little corner of the musical universe".
Or something like that. He did play at least one show with Weir, Phil, sax player Dave Ellis. drummer Jay Lane, and Jeff Chimenti.
This is kinda off topic but is it true kimock got kicked out for phucking phils wife
Funny you mentioned this, I was just reading an old copy of Rolling Stone that had a Weir interview in it right before this tour.
He basically said that it was a lot for Franks to come into the GD universe, and although many of the rehearsals got “out there” in a good way, it was just too far for him to come. Weir mentioned about a colloboration in “another lifetime”
That was the best post dead line-up.
Actually, I'd put last years' lineup head of the '98 one. I did love that '98 tour, though. Those shows were the first times that I really heard glimmers of the GD. Ratdog hadn't jelled back then, and Phil hadn't really tored with any form of PLQ yet.

How is that show?
What I heard about Kimock leaving the Q (here) was that he wanted Phil to fudge the books so Kimock did not have to pay child support which Phil was against.
I saw both the 98 and last years tour. Although I liked last years tour, Bobby looked so out of place, that it took some of the experience away from me. They sounded tight though and admired some of the chances they took.
However, the 98 tour had a sax player and Molo on drums, not to mention Hornsby. The release of the tour of St. Stephen>11 is IMHO the best recorded version.
