I spoke to the esteemed Captain Midnight, aka Steve Sommers, at about 12:30 am last night. I questioned whether Mariano's inability to strike guys out in the ALCS and WS might make Steinbrenner make an irrational move to a fireballer (Percival). Steve said Mariano's not the problem - but he did let me say a few more words - about Mariano's precision and loss of velocity allowing better hitters to at least get the bat on the ball.

I guess I'm still not over the 3-0 lead.

>>>Mariano's precision and loss of velocity

I called him "The Captain" once I got on. First time, long time indeed. The Captain Midnight intro he played before doing the overnight slot was hilarious. Now we have to settle for "The Jerome Zone", a place of sound, and no mind.

P.S. I too was un-sober for the call.
