I make dance mixes for a couple major parties a year, mainly for people about 25-45. They're always a huge hit, but after quite a few years with the same basic group of people, I'd like to mix it up more. Each year I pick up at least a couple new tunes, but I'm so hopelessly out of touch with new music, and would like to find more. For example, I still consider Sugar Ray's "Fly" as new (what, 10 years old now?) and hip (I'm sure it's not). Probably the newest thing I own is Nelly's Hot in Here, which always packs the floor, and will stay in the rotation. But I really need some new stuff. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Below is a sample of a few typical mixes, which nicely blend disco, rock, newer stuff, etc. But I really want to toss in more new stuff.

As much as I want new hiphop tunes, I'd also *really* love more older stuff. Some of my favorites which are a little more obscure, but always huge hits are Compared to What - Les McAnn, Caterpillar - Lou Donaldson, and I recently disovered Joe Tex's "Loose Caboose" which is a blast. So any good older stuff would also be much appreciated.

thanks!

Bobby's version of Good Lovin' for sure. It's SO hard to find Dead tunes to play for a non-dead crowd. Interestingly enough, by far the best I've seen is the Bob's awesome a capella version of Golden Road, which never fails to pack the floor with peole who have no idea what the fuck it is, but clap and stop away and just love it.

I've never heard an acapella version of Golden Road by Weir or anybody else.

Dyerwolf I tried to email you a copy of the A Capella Golden Road, but it bounced back. Is the email in your profile old? Anyway, if you want to hear it, shoot me an email and I'll send it. It's by "The Bobs" not Bob Weir, and is really great.

Try checking out Ozomatli - one of the tunes off their last album (Street Signs?) is getting hyped on one of the latest ipod commercials - it'll likely get recognition. I'll have to check which track it is...
