Non-PF/Dead Show Reviews Archive 2004:
RREarth Indpendent SF 11-5-04
Great sound at the Independent last night, and a sweet opening set by the Rowan Brothers, awesome fiddler player, and bass (no barry sless though) They were joined by some of the RRE musicians for during their set.
RRE played 2 incredible sets, and were joined by the Rowans who grooved into a Stir it Up medley to close the second set. Don't know the name of the encore, but it was smokin. Bird in the House, Storm and Smilin Like a Buddha were played and the band rocked the soul. I'm sure someone else will post the set list soon. The harmonies were beautiful. It was a hoedown, sing-along, dance party, psychedelic style. The blooming light show was fun too. Great to be there with the Bay Area zoners, old friends and new ones. Hope you all blokes made it home safe and sound.

Phil must've been camouflaged, I didn't catch a sighting - and didn't hear any buzzzzzzzz about that during the show. Geez, nobody tells me anything!
Too bad I missed Phil, but I had plenty of good times with the phans.
fun projections, lots of growning happening on the screen - time sequence of flowers, pumpkins vines, just everything bloomin, and other various spacey images, lights and colors - kind of a small screen though.

WALK ON BY !!!!!???!!!!
Joy!!!
Well it was a wonderful time, this is a very good band and all zoners made it a special night as a person who likes to have a good time this night was one of the best ever. Thank you RRE and my new friends for a amazing night.
And from Mrs. Canyon, aka Lisa, I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this rare occasion to get out and shake my bones. Still recovering!
Pleasure to meet you all - Nancy, Doogs, Zan - and great to see you again Emily.
Good times had by all! *What* a show. Great, great times...
Emily, I'm two down. Thanks for keeping my glass full.
Canyon, you snuck out, huh?
Zan -- I get it.
Nancy, keep smilin'.
Pierce, peace.
I'll see RRE on the flip side, fo shizzle.
Yes, Phil was in attendance for sure! I got a VIP wristband from the manager of the venue as a favor, which got me up to the balcony. Phil was up there with his wife and entourage totally getting down all night!!! It was beyond cool to see that...how much he was enjoying the whole thing. I saw him shaking his head in disbelief more than a few times. He was talking to RRE's soundman a lot and I heard him asking the name of many of the songs. I also saw him hanging out with the band during the break. I wish I could've gotten backstage to see that, but it wasn't going to happen.
Nancy, sorry I didn't get to meet you. I think I was in my own world both nights and didn't seek many people out. The Phil thing kinda blew my mind a bit.
Great show, by the way!! I'm wasted tired right now and getting ready to crawl into my bed for 10 or so hours!

RRE IS THE SHININ SPIRIT!!
the silent one has spoken...AGAIN!
nice dude.
wow great reviews
what do they sound like?
all my friends are there DAMM !!
>what do they sound like?
They sound FRESH! For once, a jam band is trying to do their own thing w/out thinking about Jerry or Trey. I can't believe they're opening for SCI soon. What a joke -- should be backwards.
They're bluegrass players, so they're pickin' and grinnin'.
It'll be interesting to see how they develop as they start playing Fillmore-type shows. -KEEP IT REAL-
Wineo...hop on board before its too late!!
>>They sound FRESH! For once, a jam band is trying to do their own thing w/out thinking about Jerry or Trey.
Yeah, that's a big part of it. But the other HUGE part is that the songwriting is SOOOO far superior to anything you've heard from ANY post-Grateful Dead jamband! Nearly all of their songs can stand next to jems like the GD's "American Beauty" or "Workingman's Dead," and even albums like Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks."
Big statements?? Yes! But I believe they are entirely true!
Yeah Makus ...
errrr Markus, d'oh
;-)
Good point, Markus. What good is a good jam if you don't have a good song to put it in? Yes -- the songwriting is excellent!
That's right Doug. What made the Grateful Dead what they were was the classic songs that you could pick up an acoustic guitar and play. There was a universal appeal to these songs, and that's what RRE has!
I both look forward to the rest of the world finding this out, and dread it at the same time!
Have you guys heard about the Railroad Earth Hour on Homegrown Radio every Thursday night at 9pm EST. I just got an email about this!

Pretty damn cool! I look forward to hearing what they'll be playing.
Yuppers ... i have been even thinking about trying to get a slot for a show, it is just that commitment thingy ...
