Non-PF/Dead Show Reviews Archive 2004:
North Mississippi All-Stars and Dirty Dozen Brass Band ***Humboldt State 10/31/04***
Have always liked the NMAS from live recordings, had never seen them live before...
Left a Smoking Crater!
The show started at 8 pm with the Rising Star Drum and Fife Band, an aptly named three piece unit from Miss., and the guitarist from NMAS sat in with them. Really enjoyed their 30 min set. Next up was the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and they laid down about an hour of tasty N'awlins blues and rythyms, also with members of the NMAS...had the crowd going wild at the end...
NMAS hit the stage accompianed for the first few tunes by the three dudes from Rising Star, all decked out in jason hockey masks, and proceeded to straight tear the roof off the place...We got about 2 hrs from them before the HSU curfew ended the evening a little after midnight
I highly reccommend seeing this tour...all the interplay between these three bands was fantastic and really added to the music...By nights end was left craving more and thats what great live music is all bout... Go see these guys!
