Non-PF/Dead Show Reviews Archive 2004:
Great Grass Harvest Festival- Waitsfield, Vermont
The weekend started on friday around 5:00...after 5 something hours of driving north tim and i made it to the Long Trail Brewery....the first sip of Long Trail Double Bag and i knew i wasnt in kansas anymore.
the next two days were chock full of switchback ales, long trail harvest, IPA...couple shots of whiskey in there.
VERMONT IS AWESOME IN OCTOBER!
and the music was great.
It was nice finally meeting JA!.... The hobos and the philzoners. #6 his wife, waterbury guy and the rest of the red sox fans....My driving hard road warrior companion Carlin. His dogs Quin and Barney....N. Lites and Robin.... WHOSE YOUR DADDY?
good time fellas.... 3 days and i head to florida. THANK GOD because this sitting in an office shit right now just aint happenin.
Very good time. Drew Emmitt and Ross Martin are on fire - go see them when you can, with the Drew Emmitt band.
Tony Furtado also was smokin' all night long when he played with his band and sat in with everyone else.
RRE played an interesting set - very late start and they played Black Bear way late in the set - were they trying to make us sleepy?
They rocked to close, though, around 2 AM - so no harm, no foul.
Always good to see the Jersey boys! Sorry I spent so little time with carlin
. I found everyone to say good bye to but you. Thanks to lites for the shows - and it was nice to meet Robin, too.
Schmegg was in normal form all evening - somethings never change, and maybe they shouldn't!
Two late nights in a row - I'm an old man! Argghhh!
Cheers!
"Drew Emmitt and Ross Martin are on fire"
...YEAH. they both ripped up the greyfox main stage this year too. GREAT stuff...im not the biggest left over salmon fan but drew's new band is insane!...i real like how this guy sings too. MOUNTAIN MUSIC.
Tony Furtado's banjo work was also really cool...his electric reminded a little of Bela. More roots undertones to it though. His acoustic folk songs are INSANE...that unplugged solo he did about prison was really cool. AND THE GUY CAN PLAY A HELL OF A BOTTLE NECK SLIDE...
Railroads first night was awesome. I dont have a list and dont feel like cross posting one up. But BOTH sets were really tight and solid. The second night late set they were drinking and it didnt have 1/2 the seriousness the first night had to it...but i got a kick out of it all anyway and enjoyed it.
BEING AMOUNST SOX FANS WHEN THEY LOOSE 19-8 IS DEPRESSING...i mean, i actually felt bad giving some of them score updates. Cary, railroads drummer kept asking and we just shook our heads. I went to #6's AUDI to smoke between sets and the ballgame was on, and i was the yankee fan. I think next year they should have this thing back around the 31st again after all the tension subsides and people can relax and enjoy themselves.
I have a close friend who was at both shows. He emailed me that something was going on with Todd on Saturday. At first he thought he was drunk, but then thought other forces may have been at work.
I was surprised! I've never seen Todd, or any of the guys, in anything but top form.
Whoever was there, what was the deal?
DUDE....we drank so much they had to take Todd away in an ambulance!...RAILROAD WEST COAST TOUR IS CANCELED..
Jazz Mandolin on friday was also pretty cool there #6...they had a great drummer and bass guy.
BTW...i really like what they did to the eclipse...the new addition and bar KICK ASS. nice stuff, and the INN we stayed at was really well run too. They were dog friendly, im sure tim will give it a full review...and the breakfast was good too, minus the wait.
Fun time indeed....
Nice road trip friday...
Great company going up..Thanks Greg, you made the
ride up a pleasure...
Stayed in a kick ass Inn..
Drank entirely too much..
Met some great peep..RRE people, JA and a host of others.
#6 Im coming back up sometime in the near future..
Sorry we didnt hang more, but we will touch base again....Too much puffing and
drinking hard put me into one hell of a intoxicated state saturday..But still woke up
saturday with a smile...
Thanks to the people of the great state of VT..
I had one hell of a time and you made a tourist feel welcome..
RRE friday was the show for me..A must have disc
for those folks curious..
Saturday was good..
Tony was like a more earthy Bella Fleck..
I love Bella and now Tony also..
Saturday RRE set was one long haze for me...I was stuck in a stoner trance..
Much love to the crew again..
Greg, Lites and Robin, Carl (be it short)etc and to those I met...
Really fine folks..Im glad to know all of you...
Lets do it again....
Remember...Save the Frog...And dont let the VT
beer fool you..Goes down way easy...But kicks your
butt..
Sorry to hear about Todd..Be well...

The Eclipse is THE place.
im eye-ing that DT on 11/14
DISTINCT possibility!
It certainly is. I love the new bar set up with the projection of what's going on in the theater. I like that you have to step out to get a drink. I realy didn't like how the interior is set up now. Seemed like there was more room before. Don't think I met anyone other than Greg and JA, but was nice to see you guys.
I need to learn to pace myself better when the band doesn't go on until 12:45. Here's a set list:

looks like sweet shows and a fine time had by all
((((((((((((((NYE)))))))))))))
here is a few pictures from the saturday show.. lights were real dark here.

Todd is fine. Friggin Greg spoutin' rumors ;-)
He was drunk as f*ck on Saturday, prolly the worst show I have seen RRE do and I have seen ALOT, forgetting lyrics, hardly playing guitar at times, slurring his words. I am not mad, it's rock & roll fer christ sakes, BUT some folk I know were upset. Quite upset. Hey everyone has their moments, this was Todd's ...
Friday was a much better RRE show IMO.
Overall great time, NJ, OR & VT are my favorite states, love hitting them.
I second the Drew Emmitt Band, great stuff and I have always dug Furtado.
Did anyone stay for the third day ? I had to split back to NJ on Sunday ...
Did I meet anyone ? I don't even know ...
>>Did I meet anyone ? I don't even know ...
hehe that's how I felt Sunday AM.
Tony Furtado and Drew Emmitt both kicked some serious ass on Saturday night. They were TONS of fun to dance to and the atmosphere at the Eclipse was downright...supportive!
Lots of folks dancin' and room to do it!
RailRoadEarth was my least favorite of all the bands of the weekend...but I'd give 'em a second chance.
Met a bunch of GREAT Zoners and had a ton of fun!
Sunday was mellow, saw Greg and Timothy Peter off on their journey south and took a walk into Waitsfield. Got a call from #6 who hooked me up with BK's number. The three of us wound up at BK's place watching Football and the Cardinals/Astros.
Went to the show on Sunday and I was beat tired...think I needed a nap after hanging out with BK and #6!
The show on Sunday was less crowded, as expected. Smokin' Grass kicked some serious ass...they are every bit as talented as Tony Furtado or Drew Emmitt.
There was the Mad Mountain Boys (or something like that) in the bar between sets. Quite talented. There was even dancing in the bar.
The Slip is great. SuperFunk Blazz and Jues. The second comming of Morphine. Great band. Saw them open the ABB in NH earlier this year and said then that they would be great in a small venue.
They were.
Althea, JMoore, Waterbury Guy, BK, #6...
Who else? The memory is fuzzy for some reason...
Great meeting everyone!
cant believe i missed ya bro
next time for sure
