Mule with
shall we not fail to mention
the "Who Do Ya LOVVVVVVE" bit

LH, the level of musicianship on stage with The Mule is AMAZING. If I were the kind of person who had to choose btwn The Dead in SF or The Mule in NYC, no contest; if I wanted music, I'd see the Mule.

was the WDYL in the middle of the Mule? Was there a bass jam? Andy's Bass brings so much character to the Mule sound, so much like what Allen brought, but of course, very different. Allen was the thunder, the raw energy, Andy's is subsonic, the web of energy.

Really glad to hear you are all about it Huckberry, I am only waiting in anticipation. This is history. A glimpse of what everything else has led up to.

Excellent use of "wook" as a verb, Huck...I think

And correct me if I'm wrong (this being my sole Mule experience thus far), but didn't they do Jimi's "Third Stone from the Sun" late in the 2nd set?

yes, the WDYL was in the middle of Mule. Bass solo? Not sure, LH, it blurs. Andy is scorching, though.

but, for clarity....wookin the VIP.
We've got this GREAT but rather rambunctious gaggle of Zoners heading into the show. Kindmomma, Peggy-o, Dandreams, Sideshow Bob (and Alex), Jessica Rabbit, Fritzy, Keyshawn, Sweet C(eleste), Scooter, me. It's a LOT of people. At a GA show and we're walking in at showtime. I'm a little concerned as to where the mega group show will settle in....

....and once we're all in and have beers....we go hang on the back level of the orch. Oh, look - there's Grateful Kate....and Larry!! (The State in Portland very much feels like a GA Warfield). We hover around a reserved VIP sectioned off bit...for the Stone Coast Brewing Co., one table for "Beth and Mike". Well, where the hell are they? It's a half hour PAST showtime now...we all think of jumping the rope but decide to wait till the lights go down. Lights go down and we step over the velvet rope. We might actually pull this off.

Oh, but there's the security guard.
"You're with the VIP group here?"
"Oh, yeah, the Stone Coast Brewing Company."
"Yeah? Who are you with?"
"Why, Beth and Mike."

IT WORKS.
There were some folks in VIP that seemed to rightfully be there, but only about six, though, in a space that COULD hold thirty. And we all peacefully co-existed.

Anyway, we held court in there all night. As we had been there from the start, we seemed to be the rightful owners. Dream Real Estate.

and it just occurs to me that Stone Coast MUST be responsible for that enormous 420 beer gobo light thing on the wall, that thing I kept pointing at and saying how awful it was. AY

A Rollicker......I feel WRUNG OUT.

Scooter, you are absolutely correct...they did play "3rd Stone From The Sun" in the jammin' toward the end o' the Portland Show.
I was sittin' at that table in the V.I.P. Box, and right after the Show ended you turned to me and asked me what Hendrix song that was.
Due to circumstances of the FINEST kynd out of my control :-) , I jus' couldn't quit come up with the name...even with it still ringin' in my ears.
LOL
Then 'bout 10-15 seconds later we both said, "3rd Stone From The Sun"!

Ahhh, right from "Thoraine Shuffle" on, that show RRRRRRRRRRRRROCKED!
And Bahstan wasn't too shabby, either
:-)
A BEAUTIFUL THANG to experience with all o' you guys!
This weekend MOST definitely....RRRRRRRRRRRROCKED A F**KIN' PARRRRRRRRTY!
:-)

>Oh, but there's the security guard.

I can't believe I didn't realize this! I was bummed to be too busy Saturday to make it up to Kate's, but figured I'd find a way to run into the Zoners at the show. I even brought a bunch of my CD mixes to give away to some of you. And I spent about 1/3 of the show in the same section, hanging out w/ a couple buddies from Stone Coast! D'oh.

I tought it was a very fun show, but after seeing them a few times lately, I'd definitely say Mule is my least favorite of Warren's 4 bands. They rip, but sometimes it all starts to sound kind of the same. More than anything I think they need backup vocals. There's just this heavy, muddy sound that needs to be mixed up more for my tastes. The keys could certainly be turned up and that would help, but it seems more like a sax, or a vocalist with some high-end range would add a huge amount to this band. I'll still go see them any time they come close (and I'll be @ Beacon on 12/30!), but I'm never completely blown away by a Mule show. I think if they'd throw in a few more covers it would take things up a notch for me as well.

Was listening to the radio this morning on the way to work, and they play Little Toy Brain. OK, this station has played it before, so I'm not shocked, but happy enough. Then the jock (Claudia Marshall) gets on and says that the lyric is so mean that she feels uncomfortable playing the song.

That can't help...
