This was a great show. Oteil didn't seem into it a first (probably due to the Rebel flag waving in Skynyrds set), but he came around fast. It's too bad they had the double billing because they could not play as long. The Instant Live was only two discs this year. I talked to Kirk West before the show and he asked me what I thought about the pairing (LS/ABB) and said "be honest." So, I was and he agreed with me. Kirk said "We'll make a lot of money tonight, but if I was important enough to have prevented it, I would have. LS was okay, but they are not coming from the same place musically. I talked to one guy who saw them two years ago and said it was the same show, except for two new songs. They're like a redneck kiss without make-up or fireworks, but with rebel flags. The LS fans around me were pointing at the screen (whenever there was a close-up on Warren Derek or Oteil) with their mouths open. They did not realize that guitars could be played that well by people who are jumping around and wearing tight pants.

God, are there still kids who are into Skynyrd? These guys need to hang it up or at least quit being a tribute act. Make it or fall on hte songs you've recorded since 87.

Sorry, that should read "They did not realize that guitars could be played that well by people who are NOT jumping around and wearing tight pants.

one of the better abb shows i have seen. i don't know if it was because they followed skynyrd and that pushed them to keep the tempo up or what. some abb shows i have seen are heavy on the slower tempo blues, but this night was much more rockin. derek and warren just fit so well together. gregg even played keys more than normal. i'll have to admit, though, just felt weird to have gregg singing blue sky. i loved the jams during that tune and it was my favorite abb tune, but it just doesn't give off the same vibe w/out dickey singing it. i was looking forward to seeing what skynyrd would sound like. they were ok, but to me, not in the same league with the allman brothers. i'm gonna hate to see derek when he's 35, cause he's pretty f'in incredible now.
